Grey Kitchens: A love Story

 Grey Kitchens

Hi everyone! I was thinking about something that I am very much in love with, that being grey kitchens. I have been obsessing over grey kitchens for quite some time now, as I am sure everyone around me knows, especially in my interior design class! I think I love anything grey when it comes to interior design, so a grey kitchen is perfect for me! I think I love a grey kitchen because of how calming it is; it is subdued in a good way. I especially love when people pair a grey kitchen with white marble, or even black soapstone (my two favorite counter top stones) I think it takes a very specific person to enjoy a grey kitchen, as many people are turned off from the color grey, as they think it is "boring" or "sterile". I think a grey kitchen will take your home to another level of style, not only because it is trendy at the moment, but it gives your kitchen an identity of its own. White kitchens are great, but can be too bright, so I think a grey kitchen it a perfect alternative. I hope you enjoyed this post, and I will try to do more interior design posts soon!

Possibly my favorite kitchen ever.

Current Obsession: Marble

Current Obsession: Marble

Hi everyone! I hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving! As we are rapidly approaching the holidays, I promise I will do more gift guides very soon! So be on the look out for that! Today I wanted to talk about a current obsession of mine; marble. I love marble for so many different reasons, such as, that it is beautiful, timeless, ad it will never go out of style. I love marble for many different purposes:

Kitchens and Bathrooms: I think a marble kitchen will never go out of style, as people have been using it for over a hundred years, and will continue using it for another hundred. Personally I don't know if I could have a marble kitchen, as it does scratch and stain very easily, but I will continue to admire it. Mable bathrooms are also amazing. I love how clean and fresh they look. I especially love when people do a basket weave pattern on the floor of their bathroom in marble. Again, I don't think that it would work in my lifestyle, but I would highly consider it. I think that if you can afford to put marble in your kitchen or bathroom, then go for it! It adds tremendous value to a home.

Furniture and home decor: Another reason why I am loving marble right now, is for its furniture purposes. I am in love with marble coffee tables! I have a marble coffee table at my house, and it is honestly one of my favorite pieces of furniture. It adds so much to a room, and really gives your room an elegant feeling. I also love marble for home decor. What I mean by that is, I like things such as cutting boards and other elements of a home made from marble. Whenever I go to Homegoods, I always look at the cutting boards, because the majority of them are half wood, and half marble. That can give your kitchen such a beautiful look! You can basically change the whole look of a kitchen, by just changing your cutting board! Other home accessories I like made of marble are thinks like statues and candlestick holders. I think pieces like that really make a home look elegant and timeless.

Personal Accessories: Finally, I like marble for personal accessories. These include, phone/computer cases and clothing. While this whole marble trend has been going on for a little while now, I always love to see people with marble print phone cases, or even marble backgrounds on their phones. It's very on trend right now, and it gives you a cool look. When it comes to clothing I have not seen too much clothing in marble print, but I think a men's t shirt with a marble print pocket would look amazing. And for women I think that accessories such as purses, or even nail polish look amazing in marble! There are so many possibilities when it comes to embracing this marble trend!

Stone Furniture

Stone Furniture

Recently I acquired a piece of furniture that really got me excited. Its a vintage marble coffee table! I have seen this piece for years in the my great aunt and uncles home, and finally I decided to take it off their hands as they are moving into a condo. I love the fact that the colors are very modern with the black and white, and the fact that the slab of marble is not attached to the ugly green base. This means that I can buy some cool MCM table legs. I just envisioned this piece in my future Chicago apartment! With dark grey walls and black leather furniture, I could really make it work! Let me know what you guys think about this diamond in the rough!

Old vs. New Construction

 Old vs. New Construction

I've been thinking a lot about home lately, well more than usual. One thing I have been thinking about was the differences between new construction(NC) and old construction(OC). When I think of NC, my mind goes to some tacky early 2000's homes with the carpeting and the bright maple banisters, Gross! Now if you love in a NC, don't feel bad about it, there are many ways to enhance your house to make it feel like a home. The first thing I would recommend is to paint! Yes paint! I can't tell you how many times I will just see paint white walls in a house. If you want some fun in your home, add some color because it adds personality to your home and makes it feel like someone lives there. Flooring g is another big part of your home that should reflect you personality. If you have white carpet and linoleum throughout your home, that doesn't say much about yourself, unless you really like white carpeting and linoleum. I totally understand if you cannot change the flooring in your home, perhaps you are renting or you don't have the money to replace it, in that case make the best of it by adding cosmetic changes. For one, if you have boring tile or linoleum, add decorative rugs. If you are stuck with gross old carpet, make the best of the situation, get it steam cleaned and enjoy what you have. Perhaps the most important part of making a house feel like a home, is the decoration and furniture. You want your home to represent you and what you stand for. If you don't like beige couches, then don't buy beige couches. If you don't like modern furniture, them don't buy modern furniture. You home is a statement of you. When buying furniture, many people think that you have to decorate your home the way the house looks like when you buy it. That is not true at all! I have seen tons of modern home decorated with antique pieces, and visa versa. But the only way to make this work is by decorating your house in a way that will make everything flow.
